Mozilla/Firefox sudo warning

Never run a mozilla browser using sudo, there is a bug that will indefinitely delete your bookmarks file (and possibly other files as well). Hopefully this will be fixed before Firefox 1.0. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205053 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=251456 There’s also a new security patch for Firefox, download it here.

GNOME File Assoceations

I was having a problem with gnome not letting me change the assoceated application for a filetype with the “Open With” tab in nautilus. I found out from someone in #gnome that GNOME (which is using the very poorly documented Freedesktop.org shared mime spec) stores this information in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache. The directory this file is in [...]

Encryption in Meshwork

So I’ve decided to start blogging about Meshwork, since thats what I spend most of my time on anyway. I’ve created a seporate category for Meshwork Development posts, however I’ll mark all posts under “Software Development” as well. I finally got around to get socket< -->socket encryption up and running in Meshwork. It’s currently 192-bit [...]

Doom 3 Demo

I saw that ID has finally released a (Windows) demo of Doom 3. Hopefully Linux binaries come next?

It’s written in C# so I can hack it to do exactly what I need, which is basically nothing (I dont like automatic completion as you type, etc). For some reason I never thought about remapping [...]

The end of SCO

Well, for us at least. Today I finally got rid of the very last SCO OpenUNIX system at work, and boy are we happy. After actually having used one of SCO’s products I can safely say that all the shit they get from, well, the entire IT community at this point is completly justified – [...]

If I had a nickle for every time Windows screwed up….

…well, I guess I still wouldn’t have enough money to purchase a license, but that’s beside the point. So after I accidentally stepped on the one extension cord that everyone’s computer was plugged into at my LAN party the other night the Windows XP installation inside vmware that I do all my Meshwork development in [...]
