New Host
If you see this, you are now viewing my site from my new Linode virtual server, which I purchased to hold me over until I can get a colo sorted out. Linode is very cool, they have a very nice web interface to control your virtual server making the setup process very easy.
Seattle Mind Camp
I will be giving an informal presentation with Andrew about Mono and Meshwork at Seattle Mind Camp next month. Seattle Mind Camp is a self-organizing, digitally minded, entrepreneur-driven, overnight Seattle confab. What happens when you put 150 of Seattle’s smartest geeks in an empty office building for 24 hours? We’re not sure either, but we’d [...]
Birthday
Today is my birthday. I registered to vote. I also recieved a letter from the Selective Service System reminding me I had to sign up. Pretty impressive that they timed it to arrive on the day of my birthday.
Let’s make linux rock just the way it is, part 1
I was reading this guy’s blog entry about the linux desktop (it was on osnews or something), and while he does make a few good points, such as how the file manager could be improved, most of the article is just whining about he thought he had installed OSX but ended up with Linux instead. [...]
Let there be COLD
I finally had it with dying in here during the summer months, and in a fit of rage purchased something to solve the problem once and for all: I ordered the unit online from the Sears website and selected to pick it up at the store near here. The site said that I would receive [...]
Beach
It was quite hot today. During lunch, we went down to the beach. Alki Beach (Seattle, WA) Does anyone know what these things are called? They were sticking up out of the sand all over. The (3) pictures are pretty bad, they looked like long worms or worm-like plants, or something. When we got back [...]
Who needs this “electricity” anyway…
The city had to do some sort of work on the power grid in our area today, so they shut off power form about 9:00am to 2:30pm. Before I left this morning I shut my server off so it could turn off properly. When I got back home and turned the server back on it [...]
How to (and how to not) ask for help
There seems to be a trend lately. Let’s ask someone for help and assume that they can both see our screen and read our mind! Examples: (21:39:47) Someone: for my site i can’t get mono to work as my handler for my site i put the handler line in the apache2.conf but it isn’t working [...]
New Blog!
I finally got so sick of dealing with bBlog’s lack of, well, anything that didn’t completely suck so I moved over to WordPress. Yeah, it’s not asp.net but everyone who I’ve talked to has liked it very much and I can see why. It’s simple, has tons of features, and at this point “just works”. [...]
Datacenter Cleanup
We are (finally) getting around to cleaning up the datacenter in my office. There was so much crap piled on the floor you could not walk to the other end of the room. While cleaning I found a few interesting things: This is more modems than I *ever* wanted to see in the same place [...]
