Boycott Sony

http://www.wired.com/news/print/0,1294,69559,00.html From the article: A lot has been written about this issue already. But a lot more needs to be said to ensure Sony gets the message: This kind of behavior can never be tolerated. It may be unrealistic to think many will heed this call, but someone’s got to say it: Boycott Sony. Boycott [...]

Seattle Mind Camp was AWESOME

I just got home from Seattle Mind Camp… the event was absolutely awesome. Everyone who attended is already eager to do it again. I met a lot of people, learned a lot, and had a lot of fun. Here is a list of everything I learned: * Riding a Segway is a lot of fun. [...]

My take on “Web 2.0″

Lots of buzz around “Web 2.0″ these days, here’s my take on it. What is it? Basically “Web 2.0″ is the type of website that is the result of using Javascript (ajax), XHTML, CSS, and RSS. What’s good about it The great thing about all of the new “Web 2.0″ sites on the internet are [...]

The GIMP on “Without a Trace”

Did anyone else notice this? Apparently The GIMP can do face recognition and magically clean up low-resolution security camera footage video! Where is the documentation explaining how to do this? =)

New Host

If you see this, you are now viewing my site from my new Linode virtual server, which I purchased to hold me over until I can get a colo sorted out. Linode is very cool, they have a very nice web interface to control your virtual server making the setup process very easy.

Random thoughts – 2005/10/15

**Free Culture** I watched Larry Lessing’s free culture presentation for the first time today (posted by Nat Freidman). For those of you that don’t understand why I, and many other people, choose to use linux as well as other free software – [...]

Seattle Mind Camp

I will be giving an informal presentation with Andrew about Mono and Meshwork at Seattle Mind Camp next month. Seattle Mind Camp is a self-organizing, digitally minded, entrepreneur-driven, overnight Seattle confab. What happens when you put 150 of Seattle’s smartest geeks in an empty office building for 24 hours? We’re not sure either, but we’d [...]

Don’t like Dell’s price? Just reload the page!

This is something I actually came across a while ago, but never got around to blogging it. With the recent news of Dell’s Open PC Costs More Than Windows Box it seemed like I might as well stop putting it off. Here is a set of screenshots, taken not more than minutes apart in both [...]

Random thoughts – 2005/10/06

**Website Host** I need a new home for my website as I am told I might loose this server “any day”. It looks like I can co-locate a 1U server for < $100/month. If anybody (that I actually know) is interested in some server space to do whatever with and would be willing to put [...]

QuickThumbs

Worked a little bit on QuickThumbs this week and fixed a whole ton of bugs. If you have a few minutes to spare, a directory with a bunch of images/photos on your drive, and mono/xsp/libgdiplus installed (1.1.9 recomended), here’s something to try: cd /path/to/images/or/photos/or/whatever/ svn co https://svn.extremeboredom.net/QuickThumbs/trunk/web . xsp Now open your web browser to [...]
