**Website Host**
I need a new home for my website as I am told I might loose this server “any day”. It looks like I can co-locate a 1U server for < $100/month. If anybody (that I actually know) is interested in some server space to do whatever with and would be willing to put a little money in twords this, please let me know right away.
**Podcasts**
I’ve been listenening to two podcasts regularly – [Diggnation][1] and [This WEEK in TECH][2].
In [episode 14 of diggnation][3] they do a pretty cool demo of some new(?) dolby technology that sounds very cool, so I recomend checking that out.
The best part of [TWiT episode 25][4] was when they were breifly talking about the Adobe+Macromedia aquisition and someone in the audience wondered if the company would start merging/discontinuing products. In response to a question about Dreamweaver and Golive, someone said “Well you can always use frontpage!”. The entire crowed cracked up. “Just Kidding”. Nice to see everyone agreeing on the quality of that application :).
**Blog Comment Spam**
I have gotten more spam on my blog this week than all the days since I started this blog put together, its totally insane. I am giving John Dvorak’s [Blog Spam Comment Fix][5] a try. I don’t actually think it will stop everything, but since I really dont want to rush to resorting to an image verification entry thing, I figure its worth a try.
**VMware**
The new 5.5 beta of VMware comes with a new application called “VMware Player” which is a simplified frontend to use a single virtual machine. I’m not really sure how useful this is because you can turn off every UI element in the full Workstation app, but I’m sure some people will like it…

Do you realy need a co-location? How much traffic do you have now?
We’ve rented a root server for our company for about 50 euro/month with 20Gb traffic inclusive(strato.de).
And I am sure it is possible to get a 1U co-location for 20 euro.
I was in a similar situation not long ago. Not being able to find a decent host in Australia for a good rate, i stumbled across http://weblogs.us. They provide free 2gb mysql/php hosting (with a bundled wordpress installation) with zero advertising.
Not the quickest host around for me to upload as I am in Australia and server isn’t. But hey, for free who is complaining.
Dont know if your interested, but thought I’d share all the same. They initially appear to no longer be accepting hosts, but if you ask nicely (like i did) you’ll most likely get given a hosting arrangement.
The guys email is jd.hodges AT gmail.com
I should also have mentioned that I host my gallery (around 1.2gb) of photos on that site too and have never had any issues re: total transfers, and I normally average a great deal of traffic a month (in terms of photo transfers, not normal traffic).
If you want a full-blown installation (root, custom services), you might want to check with a UML hosting provider. Prices start at about $10 for 64MB RAM, but be prepared to admin you own server.
Dude, you don’t need to co-lo. Lots of people use Linode (http://linode.com) including myself. I have a Linode 160 ($40/mo), which provides 160MB RAM (which is a really decent amount as far as a dedicated server is concerned), 6GB disk, a guaranteed 200MHz minimum CPU (CMR, burstable to 100% of the physical dual 3.2GHz Xeons), and a contention ratio of 1:20 (max of 20 other linodes on a physical host). It’s way worth it, and 160MB of RAM is more than enough for a really heavy postfix/courier mail setup, multiple SQL servers, Apache2 with PHP 5, and most importantly, mod_mono and XSP. You can install almost any Linux distro of your choice, and obviously can do whatever you want with it. You can have multiple disk “partitions,” etc. It’s great.
How about a virtuel server?
A company called jakobjp in germany(Speaks Danish, Germen and English) hosts virtuel servers. The performance is great though as only few shares the same server.
25GB traffic & 1.5 GB space: 100 Dkr(13.5 Euro/16,4 $).
More traffic and space can be acquired for a little less, and will include more processortime as well.
The virtuel server can be reinstalled and rebooted via webinterface. IP-addresses costs a one-time-fee.(20 $ or so).
Available operating systems:
* Debian 3.0
* Debian 3.1
* Red Hat 9
* Suse Linux 8.2
* Fedora Core 1

Hi
I currently rent a server with some redhat version on it, and with complete root access and 1000 Gig datatraffic a month for less then $50 a month. Only thing about it, is that I’m in Holland and the server in the US, and sometimes you can notice that the speed goes done a bit.
