adventures into and out of extreme boredom.

Let there be COLD

I finally had it with dying in here during the summer months, and in a fit of rage purchased something to solve the problem once and for all:

I ordered the unit online from the Sears website and selected to pick it up at the store near here. The site said that I would receive an email in about two hours letting me know that it was ready for pickup… and not even two hours later I received just that.

When we got to the store we walked into the merchandise pickup area and the first thing I noticed was the lack of a person. Yes, the human that you expect to be sitting waiting to find your order for you was replaced by a computer kiosk. The kiosk instructed me to either enter my order number or swipe the credit card I used to place the order online. I did this, and my name popped up on the big plasma display next to the kiosk and said that my order would be out shortly. Thirty seconds later someone walked out with a hand truck and handed the box over.

This has to be the best and most efficiant way to run any sort of merchandise pickup department. Every store should work this way, not only is it faster for the customer picking their product up, it costs less for the store since dont have to hire someone to sit at a desk all day waiting for people to walk in. This was almost (had to actually get off my ass and go somewhere ;) as painless as ordering from Newegg!

So based on this experience I can safely say: Sears rocks – shop there.

My question to anyone reading this – have you seen any other stores with this type of system set up?

  1. I have one of those too!

I just moved to the area a couple months ago. Everyone told me to get used to not having AC in the summer because no one around here bothers.

But somehow I ended up at an apartment complex that started putting these things in some of the rooms… I don’t know what I’d do without it. 3 computers, 2 with 500 watt power supplies… plus ~90 degree weather outside can lead to one very hot apartment!
