New Section: World News, Draft Press, Volcano?

I’ve decided to create a new section on here for World News, where I can rant about the mess Bush has left the country in, as well as anything else going on in the world. One note, I’ve updated my post regarding the possiblity of a draft with some new information reflecting recent press, so [...]

Encryption in Meshwork

So I’ve decided to start blogging about Meshwork, since thats what I spend most of my time on anyway. I’ve created a seporate category for Meshwork Development posts, however I’ll mark all posts under “Software Development” as well.
I finally got around to get socket< -->socket encryption up and running in Meshwork. It’s currently 192-bit TripleDES [...]

Could we see a military draft in 2005?

I was just informed by a neighbor of S.89, a bill proposing to reinstate the draft.
A bill to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland [...]

Doom 3 Demo

I saw that ID has finally released a (Windows) demo of Doom 3. Hopefully Linux binaries come next?

FastOpen & Custom keyboard shortcuts with metacity

So I noticed FastOpen on GnomeFiles today, which is a simplified (and much faster) run dialog replacment for gnome. It’s written in C# so I can hack it to do exactly what I need, which is basically nothing (I dont like automatic completion as you type, etc).
For some reason I never thought about remapping WinKey-R [...]

222306 - Bird head of real Firebird logo in page header logo looks like a goose on fire.
233525 - Background of Download Manager looks like one-finger-salute.
246760 - New default theme looks like it was made [...]

The end of SCO

Well, for us at least.
Today I finally got rid of the very last SCO OpenUNIX system at work, and boy are we happy. After actually having used one of SCO’s products I can safely say that all the shit they get from, well, the entire IT community at this point is completly justified - they [...]

If I had a nickle for every time Windows screwed up….

…well, I guess I still wouldn’t have enough money to purchase a license, but that’s beside the point.
So after I accidentally stepped on the one extension cord that everyone’s computer was plugged into at my LAN party the other night the Windows XP installation inside vmware that I do all my Meshwork development in decided [...]

SearchButton for Firefox

Before I accidently destroyed my Firefox profile I had this great extension called “Search Button” that among many other things will clear the search bar after pressing enter. I guess you have to use Linux to understand why this is such a revolution.
While rebuilding my Firefox profile I was very upset to find out that [...]
